Department of Civil  Engineering in association with ICI Students Chapter organized an Expert session on "Design and Construction of Hydraulics Structures" for the Civil Engineering students of second and third year on Saturday, 17/01/ 2026. The objective of enhancing their understanding of planning, analysis, and execution of hydraulic engineering projects. The session was delivered by Dr. Virendra Dehadrai Director, AQUADES Structural Consultants (P) Ltd, Nagpur a distinguished expert with extensive academic and field experience in hydraulic structures.

The expert began the session by explaining the importance of hydraulic structures such as dams, weirs, barrages, canals, spillways, and water-retaining structures in water resource management and sustainable development. Emphasis was laid on the fundamental principles governing the design of these structures and safety considerations as per relevant IS codes. The construction aspects were discussed in detail, covering site investigation, material selection, foundation treatment, quality control measures, and modern construction techniques and drawings & detailing of water tank.

Overall, the expert session proved to be highly informative and beneficial. It enriched the technical knowledge of students and provided valuable insights into the practical aspects of designing and constructing hydraulic structures, thereby strengthening their readiness for professional practice.
