Industrial Tour to Linganamakki Dam

The Department of Civil Engineering organized an industrial tour from 09 to 15 September 2025 for 55 final year students. The tour was accompanied by Prof. Akash Kaley, Prof. Mrs. Kusum Balani and Prof. Rohit Bhosle. A site visit was conducted to observe its structure, operational features, and significance in Karnataka's hydroelectric and water management systems. The Linganamakki Dam is located across the Sharavathi River in Karnataka, is a major hydroelectric and irrigation project managed by Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL). The dam plays a vital role in supplying water and generating electricity for the state. The primary aim of the site visit was to study the technical  specifications and engineering features of the dam, Water storage and regulation mechanisms, Hydropower generation processes and Safety, maintenance and environmental considerations of the project. The dam stands at approximately 2,741 meters in length and 50 meters in height, creating a vast reservoir that supports both power generation and water supply. The project has facilitated regional economic development and irrigation facilities.

The Linganamakki Dam exemplifies sound civil engineering, effective water resource management, and sustainable power generation. The site visit provided valuable practical insights into dam functionality, operational challenges, and the importance of such infrastructure in regional development.
