Industrial Visit Report – Siemens Centre of Excellence, VNIT Nagpur

The Department of Industrial IoT organized an industrial visit to the Siemens Centre of Excellence in Industry 4.0 and Digitalization at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur, on 20th August 2025 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. A total of 48 students from the 3rd Semester, accompanied by faculty coordinators Prof. Tushar Aneyrao and Prof. Rohan Vaidya, participated in the visit. The objective of the visit was to provide students with practical exposure to Industry 4.0 technologies, industrial automation, and robotics, while bridging the gap between theoretical learning and real-world industrial practices.

The resource persons at the Centre guided the students through advanced facilities including the Smart Factory Lab, Robotics Lab, Process Instrumentation Lab, Design and Validation Lab, Mechatronics Lab, Reverse Engineering Lab, IoT Lab, Test and Optimization Lab, and the Automation Lab. Demonstrations featured collaborative robots, CNC systems, industrial IoT platforms like MindSphere, distributed control systems, robotic arms for welding, modular automation systems, and Siemens NX-based CAD modelling and simulation workflows. Students gained valuable insights into PLC programming, SCADA operations, real-time process monitoring, 3D scanning, additive manufacturing, and system simulation, offering a holistic perspective of the digital manufacturing ecosystem.

The event was successfully coordinated by Prof. Aneyrao and Prof. Vaidya with active support from Siemens CoE experts. The visit proved to be highly enriching as students received first-hand exposure to advanced industrial technologies, motivating them to pursue innovative solutions, research projects, and future careers in automation and digital manufacturing.
