B.Tech Computer Science Engineering (A) & Industrial IoT Students: Industrial Visit to CSIR–NEERI, Nagpur
The Department of Engineering, Sciences and Humanities organized an industrial visit to CSIR–NEERI, Nagpur, on 8th April, 2026 for the students of Computer Science Engineering (A) and Industrial IoT to understand the practical applications of environmental technology and the role of AI and ML in pollution monitoring.
During the visit, students explored key projects such as the “Godavari River Document Project,” conducted in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad, focusing on pollution analysis and environmental impact. They were introduced to an AI-ML-based air pollution monitoring system using image processing and YOLO models to classify vehicles and estimate emissions, with technologies like Next.js, C++, and Python supporting its implementation. The air sampling technique using diffusion devices and filter paper was also demonstrated.
Students visited the Environmental Material Science Lab, where waste materials like sludge are reused to create sustainable construction materials, and learned about the “Neeri-Kshan” drone for environmental monitoring. They were also introduced to waste-to-energy conversion producing biochar and water quality analysis using physicochemical, chemical, and biological testing compared with BIS standards. Exposure to instruments such as the CHNS analyzer, TDS detector, and Ion Chromatography further enriched their understanding.
The visit offered valuable insights into real-world environmental challenges and sustainable technological solutions and was coordinated by Dr. Kiran Khandarkar and Prof. Atish M. Gour, with sincere gratitude extended to the CSIR–NEERI team for their guidance and support.
