Guest Lecture on Semantic Communication

The Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering organized a Guest Lecture on “Semantic Communication” for B.Tech VI Semester E&TC students on 13th March 2026 as part of the advanced curriculum to expose students to emerging trends in wireless communication. The session was delivered by Dr. Prabhat Sharma, Associate Professor at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology Nagpur. During the lecture, he explained the fundamental concept of semantic communication, highlighting how it differs from conventional communication systems that focus on transmitting bits rather than meaning. He discussed the role of artificial intelligence and machine learning in enabling semantic-aware transmission, potential applications in future 5G/6G networks, and the challenges involved in implementing such systems. The session provided students with valuable insights into current research directions and encouraged them to explore advanced topics in next-generation communication technologies. The lecture was highly interactive, and students actively participated by asking questions related to practical implementation and research opportunities in this emerging field.
