IIT Kharagpur organises ‘Saptahaant Shikshak Prashikshan’ (SSP)

A two day weekend training programme- Saptahaant Shikshak Prashikshan (SSP) on ‘Introduction to Machine Learning’ was organized on 16th & 17th Dec, 2017, at St.Vincent Pallotti College of Engineering & Technology, Gavsi Manapur, Nagpur. It provided a platform for teachers & learners to increase their knowledge on Machine Learning under National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT) scheme. This was a significant initiative taken by IIT Kharagpur, conducting weekend Faculty Development programmes named ‘Saptahaant Shikshak Prashikshan’ (SSP), facilitating upgradation of knowledge and teaching skills of college faculty in specialised technical and science subjects.

The lecture transmission and live interaction took place through distance mode using A-VIEW technology on ‘Introduction to Machine Learning’ in the area of Electronics and Computer Science. The event started with the Inaugural function held at IIT Kharagpur. Faculty were enlightened of how in the past decade Machine Learning was used in many domains, giving practical speech recognition and conversational system, effective web search and many futuristic applications such as self-driving cars.

This course introduced learners to the field of machine learning, important concepts and techniques. During the two days session, topics such as -Supervised Learning, Probabilistic Models, Gaussian Mixture Models (GMM), Hidden Markov Models (HMM), Maximum likelihood, SVM, Kernel Methods, Neural Networks, Backpropagation, RNN, CNN were largely discussed by Prof. Sourangshu Bhattacharya,  & Prof. Pawan Goyal,  Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Kharagpur through A-VIEW technology.

In all 23 faculty members from different colleges participated. The workshop concluded with a test conducted for the participants and Valedictory function. Prof. Vishal Tiwari (Workshop Coordinator), & Remote Center Incharge Dr. Ashutosh Werulkar, Asso. Prof., ETC Department along with their support team co-ordinated this workshop.
