Visit to ACREX 2019

The Department of Mechanical Engineering organised a 2-day ACREX’19 visit for their ISHRAE chapter student members on 1st & 2nd March 2019, hosted at B.E.C. (Bombay Exhibition Centre), Goregoan, Mumbai. A total of 23 students; 6 from 8th semester and 17 from 6th semester accompanied by Prof. Atul Saxena (Faculty Co-coordinator SVPCET, ISHRAE Chapter) went for this exhibition.

‘ACREX’ is South Asia’s largest exhibition on Air Conditioning, Heating, Ventilation and Intelligent Buildings annually organised by ISHRAE (Indian Society for Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers) and Endorsed by ASHRAE, in collaboration with SANHUA, DAIKIN, DANFOSS, VOLTAS LTD., HAIER HITACHI, LG AND MITSUBISHI.

ACREX’19, Mumbai was the 20th edition of this Mega-event spread in over 8 acres, which was witnessed by 600+ exhibitors, 50,000+ visitors from more than 25 different countries. Concurrent Activities included Workshops, Seminar, Interactive Panel Discussions, Students Quiz: AQUEST, Curtain Raiser, ACREX Awards of Excellence & ACREX Hall of Fame.

The theme this year was Building Automation (BMS) and indoor air quality (IAQ). Students witnessed state-of-art technologies in the field of HVAC. Exhibitors spectrum included packaged chillers, air handling and distribution products, unitary products (air conditioners), water distribution, water treatment (prevention of scale, corrosion, bio-fouling), indoor air quality, heat load calculations. This visit helped students become aware of advancements in technologies and exploring career opportunities in the field of HVAC.


The “Team Ashwariders” comprising 15 students and faculty advisors Prof. M.S. Khan ,Prof. V.C.Sontake  alongwith their all terrain vehicle (ATV) lack Stallion 6.0 (BS6)  participated in 12 addition of  Mahindra BAJA SAEINDIA 2019 held  from 22th – 27th January 2019 at NATRAX,Indore ,MP. BAJA SAE is an intercollegiate engineering design competition for undergraduate and graduate engineering students. The object of the competition is to simulate real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges. Each team is competing to have its design accepted for manufacture by a fictitious firm. The students must function as a team to design, engineer, build, test, promote and compete with a vehicle within the limits of the rules. Some of the events like suspesnion and traction test and rock crawl test were designed to test the strength of vehicle and metal toughness and skills of driver.
In the competition team Ashwariders secured overall 18th rank amongst 117 teams including IIT Indore ,IIT Hyderabad, and NIT Warangal. Event wise ranking is as follows:

One day Industrial Exposure Training Workshop

Department of Mechanical Engineering coordinated One day Certified Industrial Exposure workshop on “Industrial Practices and Soft Skills” organized by KEC International Ltd. Training center, Butibori MIDC. A total of 44 students of 6th Semester participated in this workshop. Mr. Manish Shahane, Training Head, KEC International Ltd training center conducted and delivered the sessions.

The students were given exposure about the various aspects required in the current industrial sector to become employable and to sustain the employment. Following topics were covered during the workshop – Current Industry scenario of employment, Qualities of the employee required by the industry, Importance of teamwork, Importance of collaborative work among various teams, Individual SWOT (Strength-Weakness-Opportunities-Threat) analysis methodology, Importance of goal setting, Method of goal setting and Industrial Safety.

The above topics were covered by classroom lectures and the same were communicated more prominently by participation of the students in various game activities mapping with above topics.

The workshop concluded with the visit to the world’s largest tower testing facility which is developed and used for testing various tower designs manufactured by KEC International Ltd.

St. Vincent Pallotti College of Engineering & Technology’s SAE motorsports team ‘Ashwa Riders-Go Karting’ competed with their creation Mirage 3.0 at the INDIAN KARTING RACE (IKR championship 2018-19 organized by Imperial Society of innovative engineers ISIE, INDIA in collaboration with the federation of motorsports club of India (FMSCI) at The Buddha International Circuit, Noida, held from 4th to 10th Feb, 2019. The team was declared National Champions, securing first position, also bagging the best innovation and best endurance award. This is for the second time in a row they bagged the National Championship award along with many awards as in the earlier edition IKR-2017-18.

A team comprising of 25 passionate Mechanical Engineering students participated in this 7 day event and witnessed participation of 64 teams from different colleges all over India. Only 33 teams qualified the pre-virtual and virtual rounds, moving into the final event. Team Ashwa Riders cleared the strict safety and technical inspection round in the first attempt conducted by FMSCI technical inspectors, becoming the first team to clear TI in the first attempt and day itself.

Capt. Samprit Shamkuwar along with the team and faculty advisor Prof. Homeshwar Nagpure took exceptional efforts for the technical inspection. This success raised the team’s morale, despite the chilling temperature of Delhi. The team performed exceptionally well on the second day too which was that of a business presentation. The third day was that of the brake & acceleration test, design and innovation round.

On the fourth day, the drivers of the team Samprit Shamkuwar and Anmol Durugkar showcased their fabulous driving skills. The event had elimination of the teams based on the safety norms and scores. Only 17 most scoring teams were cleared to compete in the endurance race in Buddha International Circuit.
The faculty advisor Prof. Homeshwar Nagpure encouraged and motivated the team and kept their zeal and enthusiasm alive and the kart finally lined up for the endurance race. The endurance test was completed with a lead of 3 laps. The crowd cheered loudly seeing the kart in the excellent driving conditions even after the end of endurance race.

The award ceremony was held in the Buddh International Circuit and was graced by the delegates from the FMSCI. The team bagged “Best Innovation Award” and Rs. 10000 cheque, followed by “The best Endurance award” and Rs.10000 cheque and finally the biggest of all “ The Champion trophy” and Rs 80000 cheque. The team lifted the trophy presented by the dignitaries from Hero Electric motors.

The Team is very much thankful to the Management, HOD of Mechanical Engineering Department, SAE collegiate club faculty coordinator, all the faculty members(Teaching & non teaching) and all the students of the TECH PALLOTTINE family. Industry-Department Interaction

Mr. Manish Sanghvi, Director of Sanghvi Industries and Vice President of Butibori Manufacturing Association had visited the Mechanical Engineering Department on 24th Jan, 2019

Mr. Sanghvi interacted with faculty members on various industrial projects and opportunities available for work in collaboration. He also visited the Workshop, AIP Lab and was impressed at the way labs are set up in the Department, further giving suggessions on utilisation of resources for training of manpower as per industry need. Mr. Sangvi at the end assured the Department of working in collaboration for the overall development of  students.

Preparing oneself for a Professional Career

Dr. S. V. Gole, Principal of the College was invited to deliver a lecture to students of all semesters of the Mechanical Engineering Department on the topic ‘Preparing for a Professional Career’.

Dr. Gole introduced students helped students understand the concept of career and its options after engineering. The option of higher education, entrepreneurship, campus placement, competitive exams were discussed with students along with its road map. He introduced them to self assessment and SWOT analysis to find out personality traits where improvement is required. The importance of personality development along with right attitude was emphasized in order to get better career option and sustaining in the corporate culture post joining.

The lecture was informative and prepared students to select better career options.


Guest Lecture on Project Management

A Guest lecture by Mr. Vijay Ambulkar, SmartPlan Resource, Nagpur, on the topic ‘Project Management’ was arranged for the Sixth and Eighth Semester students of Mechanical Engineering Department.

Mr. Ambulkar is having 32 years of experience in Project Management and Project Engineering. He spoke at length on the topic, its relevance in the field of engineering along with its importance in getting a job. He introduced students to various softwares available for Project Management and also to the process of heavy engineering. Further, he elaborated skills required by project managers in handling the same.

The lecture enabled students to learn in depth about Project Management tools for better career prospects.



The management, faculty and students Congratulate Dr. Brijendra Singh Bhaskar on being awarded Ph. D. in Mechanical Engineering from RTMNU, Nagpur. The title of his thesis was “Experimental optimization of heat transfer through porous material heat exchanger”.

Students Shineout at aQuest

A regional level quiz competition named aQuest was held at Priyadarshini College of Engineering, Nagpur on 1st November, 2018. This was organized by the Nagpur Chapter of ISHRAE (Indian Society of Heating Ventilation and Air-conditioning) and HITACHI. Four teams comprising of 8 students represented our Institute based on the preliminary test conducted on 20th Oct, 2018.

40 teams from 12 reputed engineering colleges across the region consisting of 2 students each participated in the event. It was conducted in two rounds, the screening round being MCQ based, where 6 teams qualified for next level. Two of our 4 teams qualified for the quiz and buzzer rounds with cumulative scoring.

The function was presided over by ISHRAE officials of the Nagpur Chapter, Mr. Narendra Pampattiwar, Secretary; Mr. Manish Gadekar, Past-President; Mr. Harsh Dubey, Student Zonal Chair; Mr. Satish Lokhande, Past Student Zonal Chair and Mrs. Namrata Lotia, Women Chair ISHRAE. Officials of HITACHI supervised the entire event.

The student team of Yash Choudhari and Gaurav Bangre from our college won the first position, whereas the team of Pranav Wankhede and Prachit Shrikhande stood second. The winning team will participate at the National level aQuest quiz competition to be held at ACREX (South Asia’s largest exhibition on HVACR)  BEC, Mumbai from 28th February- 2nd March 2019.

Industrial visit to MSRTC Workshop

On a day’s industrial visit to MSRTC Workshop, MIDC Hingna, Nagpur, were 53 students of the 5th semester, Mechanical Engineering Department. Dr. Sushant S Satputaley and Prof. S. V. Deo accompanied these students on 1th September, 2018.

The Workshop Superintendent guided students throughout the visit where they got a thorough understanding of body work techniques & procedures for transport buses, engine assembly dis-assembly process, working of different types of fuel pumps used in MSRTC buses and maintenance process followed by them.

Through this tour students were productively engaged in a first hand experience of visiting various sections within the industry.
