Higher Studies Club – Session Report

The Department of Information Technology recently inaugurated their Higher Studies Club formed with the objective of training students preparing for higher education.

Dr. Shahram Hayadri was invited as guest speaker to guide students in their preparation for the same. He threw light on foreign universities, their educational culture, process of admission and career scope abroad. He also gave a brief overview about the courses offered at the University of Massachussets, USA, their infrastructure, facilities, course structure and future career opportunities. A strong determination is a must when preparing for futher studies” said Dr. Hayadri, dicussing the selection criteria and scoring tricks that will help students to smartly score in their exams for higher studies. He further guided them on fields to focus upon, currently booming in the industry.

The program  was coordinated by Prof. Shabana Pathan and Prof. Vishal Tiwari under the guidance of Prof. Manoj Bramhe, HOD.

Inaugural Ceremony of Higher Studies Club

The Department of Information Technology recently inaugurated the ‘Higher Studies Club’, which focuses on training students for competitive exams and post graduate studies. The inaugration ceremony witnessed a participation of over 100 plus students from the Department.

Dr. Shahram Haydari, Director, Graduate Recruiter, UMASS, USA was invited as  expert speaker and mentor for the ceremony. Ms. Indraja Nikum, an alumna, spoke to the gathering through a video message sent by her. Also present to mentor students were alumni mentors Mr. Pratap Jagtap and Mr. Aditya Dhoble. Mr. Naman Agrawal, Final Year student guided students in preparing for GRE.

Fr. Dr. Paul Chandrankunnel spoke on the aspect of determination and dedication for higher education preparation. Later, Dr. Surendra Gole, emphasized the need to  develop interpersonal skills.

The Higher Studies Club members, talked on the development of an informative app wherein all the syllabus and reference books information for various competitive exams is available. A Google classroom, Learning Management System too is created which would keep all the aspirants digitally connected.

The ceremony was coordinated by Prof. Shabhana Pathan and Prof. Vishal Tiwari under the guidance of Prof. Manoj Bramhe, HOD.

IT Students Industrial Trip

Final Year students from the Department of Information Technology, fifty four of them, had been to Delhi on an industrial visit from 30th August to 1st September, 2018. They were accompanied by faculty members Prof.VikasBhowate and Prof.HarshalaShingne.

Their first visit was to Software Technology Parks of India (STPI). Here, they maintain internal engineering resources and provide consulting, training and implementation services in network design, system integration, installation, operations, maintenance of application networks and facilities in varied areas. Different networking layers were shown to students.

On the second day, they were at HUAWEI Technologies Co., Ltd., a Chinese multinational networking, telecommunications equipment, and services company. It is the largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer in the world. There, students were explained the process of cloud storage and networking done by the company.

On day 3, they visitedHindustan Computers Limited (HCL), an Indian multinational technology company. Students were given a detailed overview of the hiring process done by the company and were also given important tips on how to prepare for an interview.

Students returned with joy and contentment, in being a part of this wonderful industrial exposure given to them.

IT Students Industrial Trip to Hyderabad

The Information Technology Department organized an industrial trip for their third year students to Hyderabad from 16th to 18th August, 2018. They were accompanied by faculty members Prof. Praveen Sen and Prof. Neha Singh.

Their first visit was to the Standardisation Testing and Quality Certification (STQC) Directorate, an attached office of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. They provide quality assurance services in the area of Electronics and IT through a countrywide network of laboratories and centres.

On the second day they were at the CableNet ExpoVision. Here they attended seminars on latest trends in the industry, future of the industry, awareness on govt. policies and skill development sessions. They also caught a glimpse of companies like SYROTECH, CRYPOGUARD, SRI Technologies, Oriental Products Private Limited, Aishwarya Technologies & Telecom Limited, DEVISER, Infonet Solutions and many more showcasing their products. Common among these were modems switches, hubs, and phone bill generators.

On day 3, they visited the Research Block of IIIT Hyderabad campus. There are numerous labs such as the Speech Processing Lab, Information Retrieval & Extraction Lab, Machine Translation, Natural Language Processing Lab, etc. A  large number of post graduate students are a part of these projects.

Session on ‘C Language’

To help deepen students knowledge in C Language, the Department of Information Technology organized a session on the same for second year students on 11th August, 2018.

Speaker for the session was Mr. Sushil Dhote, alumnus of IT Department. He is currently employed at hetadata.in, Nagpur, as an Embedded Developer. Prof. M. Bramhe, HOD (IT), emphasized the need of  having a strong base in C Language.

The session was interactive, Mr. Dhote explained different aspects of the topic. He also shared his industrial experience with students.

Prof. Samruddhi Thawkar saw to the smooth coordination of the session.

Artificial Intelligence: The emerging field

Artificial Intelligence (AI), once considered as an obscure branch of computer science, now has a growing number of adherents in a wide variety of fields. Taking this into consideration, a guest lecture, ‘Knowledge Representation Algorithms in AI’ was organised by the Department of IT, under the aegis of III Cell, on 14th August 2018, for 7th semester students.

Speaker of the session was Prof. Gauri Dhopavkar, HOD of Computer Technology Dept., YCCE College, Nagpur. She has widely contributed in the field of AI through her many projects and technical papers.

The session commenced with a brief introduction of the guest, followed by the   Academic In-charge of IT Dept., Prof. Shabana Pathan welcoming her. A number of interesting topics were covered such as propositional logic, predicate logic,  implementation of resolution method, unification algorithm and substitution method”. The session was great and enabled students to get more clarity on the topic. Prof. Gauri gave them practice problems which helped clarify their doubts.

The speaker enlightened everyone with her knowledge and wise words, with  student participants appreciating the interactive session. Vishakha Soman, 4th  year student, anchored the programme and proposed the vote of thanks.

Prof. Pooja Walke and a team of faculty members, put in their best efforts, thus ensuring success of the program.

Live Webinar on Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence

Mr. Anshu Pande, Trainer, Consultant and expert in IOT, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at TechTrunk Ventures Pvt Ltd, Hyderabad was invited by the Department of Information Technology. He facilitated a live webinar on Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence for students of the 3rd & 5th semester.

Mr. Pande explained the scope of ML & AI from placement point of view, with special emphasis on it being a ‘Development tool’. Students also spoke to machines via Jupyter tool, which lets them know what a machine accepts and doesn’t. Importance on programming languages such as Python and R too were highlighted.

This seminar was organized by the Centre of Excellence, IT Department under the guidance of Mr. Vikas Bhowate and  Ms. Pooja Walke.

Session on ‘Speed Reading & Memory Boosting’

On 26th August 2018, Mr. Anup Palandulkar, a Speed Writing & Passion Coach, University Gold Medalist, was invited by the Department of Information Technology under the Computer Society of India (CSI). He facilitated a session on ‘Speed Reading & Memory Boosting’ to students of the 3rd & 5th semester.

Mr. Palandulkar has trained more than 3000 people and 1000+ students worldwide. He paid special emphasis on a student’s basic needs, such as the importance of speed reading & writing along with memory development.

The seminar was organized under the guidance of Mr. Vikas Bhowate. and Ms. Samruddhi Thawkar.

ISTE Organizes Sesssion on ‘Technical Paper Writing’

The Department of Information Technology had organised a session on ‘Technical Paper Writing’, lead by Dr. S. S. Limaye, in-house faculty of the ETC Dept on 26th March 2018. The session was targeted especially for the third and final year students to guide them with technical paper writing and presentation.

Dr. S. S. Limaye also shared his personal experience on paper publishing and presentation. There was an interactive session at the end where students cleared their doubts with regard to their mini and major projects. A few of them came up with productive ideas and methods regarding presentations which  helped other students as well.

The event was organised under the ISTE (students chapter), supported and guided by faculty co-ordinators Prof. Pooja Walke and Prof. Harshala Shingne.

The IT-Fiesta- ‘INFOTSAV-2K18’

The Department of Information Technology had organised its technical fiesta ‘INFOTSAV-2K18’, comprising of 9 technical and non-technical events on the 9th &10th of March, 2018.

This 2 day fest was inaugurated at the hands of Mr. Arvind Kumar, Centre Head, TCS, Nagpur and Fr. George Madeikkal, Director, SVPCET.  Prof. M. V. Bramhe, Head, IT, initiator of this Department annual fest wished all the coordinators of each event success for the 2 day fest. A jam session too was organised by the RJs of Radio City 91.1 Fm, our official partner.
