INVENTOMANIA 3 – Carrying Forward a Legacy!

IMG_2Inventomania 3, an Inter-Collegiate Technical event was organized by the Electrical Engineering Department from Sept. 24th to 26th, 2016. The event was conducted under the aegis of Students’ Chapter, The Institution of Engineers (India).

Mrs. Alice Paul, Station Manager of Air India, was invited as the Chief Guest for the Inaugural Function. The event carried forward the legacy of innovations and technical skills of the alumni and existing students’. A total of five events were part of Inventomania 3 i.e Mindstorm (Quiz), Contraption (Chain Reaction Event), Techno Hunt, Jugaadu Engineer and T-shirt Painting, out of which two were Inter-Collegiate events. An overwhelming response was received, more than 200 teams and over 550 participants took part.

Abstract of the invention
Induction motors account half of the electric power consumed across the world. They are very important component of industry. Although, these electromechanical devices are highly reliable, they are susceptible to many types of faults. It is therefore necessary to design suitable motor protection panel for protection of motor. Loss of motor means loss of production of goods, which in turn causes financial losses. The faults can be minimized by improving the system design, reducing the number of faults, improving the quality of protection system and employing a reliable protection system. However the faults cannot be eliminated completely by obsolete protective devices therefore there is an urgent need of reliable and automatic fault clearing system.
The main motivation behind the project was to prepare automatic motor protection panel with minimum cost, as the panels which are present in industries are very costly and do not include all major faults in single panel. Beside industrial use the panel can be used to give hands on experience on the industrial equipment’s to engineering students, as virtual fault clearing system has also been included in the motor protection panel. The designed motor protection panel has employed multifunction meter which measures several electrical quantities which facilitates the performance of several practicals based on induction motor protection faults for the demonstrations to the engineering students.)

They are awarded with Cash Prize, Medallion and Citation.
SANGITA DILIPKUMAR MANDALTech-Pallottines bag Young Engineer Innovator Award
Nupur Dubey and Sangita Mandal of SVPCET won the prestigious Young Engineer Innovator Award by Punjab Technical University under Indian Society for Technical Education. The selection committee constituted by the ISTE has announced their project titled Development of Soil Moisture Sensor for Efficient Irrigation System as the best B.Tech project. They are awarded with Cash Prize, Medallion and Citation.
Nupur and Sangita of Electrical Engineering Department, developed the Soil Moisture Sensor as part of their Final Year Project under the guidance of Prof. S. N. Agrawal. They designed the sensor and its control circuit such that whenever sensor detects the desired moisture content in soil, the control circuit trips and hence it cuts off the water supply. It is economical not only because it saves water and energy but also it is very cost efficient. The development of gypsum based sensors from easily procurable and locally available materials, is not only path breaking low cost technology development but also easy to manufacture and due to meager cost involvement in manufacturing it can be adopted by poor farmers in managing efficient irrigation system. At the same time it helps in conserving scarce water resources.
Innovations in technology has been a cumulative effort of Tech-Pallottines. College authorities, Fr. George Madeikkal, Fr. Manoj Punchakunnel, Fr. Johnson Puthur, Principal Dr. D. P. Vaidya & Vice-Principal Prof. R. B. Gowardhan and all other college staff are proud of such brilliant innovators and congratulate Nupur and Sangita for their technical excellence.
