Workshops for Faculty of E&TC Department

Faculty members of the Electronics and Telecommunication Department had a great time learning through two workshops conducted back to back on 23rd Feb 2018. The first was facilitated by Prof. B. Joy which was based on using ICT tools. He helped faculty create their own page on WordPress and effectively use the same in the teaching-learning process.

The second workshop was conducted by Dr. S. S. Limaye, based on Node MCU. Some students from E-yantra lab also participated and encashed the opportunity of learning through this workshop. Both the workshops were very effectively facilitated and would be used in the teaching- learning process. The Department is looking forward to conduct more such workshops.

Workshop on NAAC Awareness

Dr. V. Rhymend Uthariaraj from Madras Institute of Technology (Department of Information Technology, Anna University) delivered an expert lecture on necessity, procedure, documentations and evaluation guidelines of NAAC Accreditation Process to faculty members of our Institute on 10th Feb, 2018.

Faculty members were briefed about the 7 criteria and documentations required as per the criteria in the first half of the session. Dr. Rhymend emphasized the importance of innovative practices with respect to teaching, evaluating learning quotient and social welfare of students in the grading parameters. He suggested various best practices that an institute can incorporate and also threw light into the organizational structure to be followed by the IQAC cell.

The workshop was knowledge gaining and deepened the understanding of those present of the significance and steps involved in the NAAC process.

Learning more about ‘Human Values & Professional Ethics’

The Basic Sciences & Humanities Dept., had recently organized a 2 hour session for the First Year students on ‘Human Values & Professional Ethics’.  In all 395 students were part of this interactive session lead by Professors – Satish Kene, Namrata Gore and Sonia Francis.

Details are as under-

Objective:   

To create awareness within students to realize:

  • who they are
  • their purpose in life
  • human values & its role in their life

Outcome:

Students are able to broaden their understanding about Self & Others.

Topics that were initiated:

  • Who am I?
  • My purpose & role in life.
  • The diverse roles I play & the values assoicated with it.
  • Tortoise & Hare story – its salient features.
  • Understanding the difference between – Competition & Excellence.
  • Engineer & Innovations.
  • Team Work

Through out the facilitation process students were elicited to voice their understanding on the above mentioned topics. At the end students were motivated to come up with ideas for their own personal growth.

Students appreciated the effort taken by their Department in organizing this session for them.

Expert Session on ‘Research Methodology’

On the 29th of Jan, 2018, the IT Department had invited Dr. S. Godbole, Post-doctoral Research Fellow, Programming Languages and Software Engineering Lab-II School of Computing, National University of Singapore, Singapore, to deliver a session on ‘Research Methodology’. Those present for the session were Heads of various Departments and Faculty members.

Dr. Godbole‘s main research areas are Software Engineering and Testing and works on the  modelling, design and development of various testing tools.

He began his talk highlighting the difference between publishing, presenting a paper in a journal or at a conference respectively. Dr. Godbole discussed various points like-

  • various types of conferences
  • how to write a quality research paper using latex tool
  • difference between a rated and unrated conference
  • process of publishing papers in a SCI journal
  • journal Indexing
  • about Access Journal and presenting papers in a good publication
  • Post Doc R&D facility available in and outside India.

“CREADOR” a Technical Event Under CSI

The Department of Information Technology had organised a technical event “Creador” under the Computer Society of India (CSI) for students of Computer Engg., and Information Technology  on 8th February 2018. In all 60 students participated.

The event was all about creating GIF. The participants were asked to build a gif using any specific application of their choice on the given topic in groups of five, within a time limit of one hour.

This gave students an insight on how to be digitally creative, providing them with an enriching and stimulating experience to apply their knowledge in a specific practical problem.

The event was a great success, conducted under the guidance of Prof. Vikas Bhowate and Prof. Samruddhi Thawkar .

‘Fare’ ‘Well’ Dear Sir…..

On 07th Feb 2018, a farewell function was organised in honour of our dear Principal, Dr. V. V. Sohoni. A floral welcome was accorded to Sir by Rev Fr. Varghese Pullan the Chairman of the Tech Pallotine Society, Nagpur, who then addressed the gathering.

`A soulful musical performance was given by students Varun Dhabe and Rushikesh Kale. Fr. George Madeikkal went down memory lane, sharing his experiences with Dr. Sohoni and his rich contribution in the growth of the Institute. A nostalgic video was prepared by Prof. Abranil Banerjee,  Prof. Piyali Sarkar and Mr. Bony (Final Year, CE) wherein, Prof. R. B. Gowardhan (Vice Principal), Dr. A. S. Dhundi,  Dr. J. P. Rothe and faculty members expressed their  love and good wishes to Sir.

Dr. Sohoni took the program to an elevated level through a poetry writen by him, which he preferred to sing through his melodious voice. At the end, our dear Principal was gifted a beautiful portrait as a token of love and gratitude. The event concluded singing the National Anthem.

Ashwariders all set for ‘Mega ATV Championship 2018’

The SAEINDIA Collegiate Club motorsport team ‘The ASHWARIDERS’, again proved their technical excellence by creating an elegant, yet rugged all-terrain vehicle (ATV) named ‘BLACK STALLION 5’. The ATV was unveiled in a grand ceremony held at the college premises on Tuesday, 30th January, 2018 by Mr. Kuljit Singh, Regional Manager, Force Motors India Ltd, Pune.

Fr. George Madeikkal (Director), Fr. Anto Mullanal (Assistant Director), Fr. Siju Jose (Financial Advisor), Dr. V. V. Sohoni (Principal), Prof. R. B.Gowardhan (Vice Principal), Prof. A. D. Pachchhao (HOD, ME Dept), Prof. Saifullah Khan, Prof. V. C. Sontake, Faculty Members, parents of the team members and students too were present at the ceremony.

Fr. George congratulated and motivated the team for their efforts, extending his best wishes for the competition. Mr. Kuljit Singh applauded the team for their creation and looked amazed at the extraordinary design of the ATV. The unveiling was followed by a demo.

The Ashwadriders jumbo team of 30 students from the Mechanical Engg. Dept. alongwith their ‘ATV BLACK STALLION 5’, would be participating at the ‘Mega ATV Championship 2018′, from 24th-26th February, 2018 at Nashik, Maharashtra. This competition is largely known for the enormous challenges it throws open for its participants.

The Management, Prof. Saifullah Khan and Prof. V. C. Sontake (Faculty Advisors, SAEINDIA Collegiate Club) were thanked for their guidance, motivation and support.

‘Special Children’ Captivate Us With Their Presence

On 31st Jan 2018, the NSS unit of our Institute played host to students from Jeevoday Special School. The school is located at Residency Road, Sadar, Nagpur and was established in the year 1989 for imparting education and training to the less privileged, marginalized special children and youth of the society. At present the Special School has 300 students.

Around 80 of them along with Sr. Josna (Principal) and school staff visited our Institute. Later these special students treated all with an array of  singing and dance items. It was indeed delight to the senses watching these young ones so colourfully dressed and innocent as ever presenting such a lively cultural program.

Mr. Anthony Besterwitch anchored the program, attended by students, faculty members, staff and Management of the College.

5 day hands-on workshop on Game Programming with Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality

The IT Department of St. Vincent Pallotti College of Engineering and Technology organized a  5 day hands-on workshop on “Game Programming with Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality”, on 29th of January 2018  block B, ETC auditorium.

Ms. Ishita Jain student comparer, welcomed the dignitaries ,faculty and student participant including those from other colleges like  BDCOE,RKNCE,NIT,SBJain ,PIET etc. After lighting of the lamp and scripture reading, the chief guest Dr.  Sangharatna Godboley  & Mr.Sumit Jain were accorded a floral welcome.

A  video of  about the latest Gaming Applications, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality was shown through a presentation. Later, Ms. Kritika Dongre, student coordinator of the workshop, highlighted importance of the workshop and benefits of the same. Dr. Sangharatna Godboley  Post-doctoral Researcher  gives training on various programs like UML, Jmeter etc. and has also released various journals and publications,he stressed on the scope of gaming in today era. Later, Dr. Sangharatna Godboley and Sumit Jain, trainer of the workshop were felicitated with a memento. Program ended with the  vote of thanks followed by the National Anthem.

After the commencement of the workshop Mr. Sumit Jain interacted with  participants  giving them a brief idea about gaming as a profession. Theory lectures were held on the first two days of the workshop where students were taught about the lifecycle and architecture of gaming. Students were given a practical approach on the last three days of the workshop, where gaming was taught on Unity application. Students were also given an individual experience on Augmented and Virtual Reality, this  was a thrilling for  students. A total of 75  students  participated in the workshop. On the last day of the workshop, all  students participants were awarded certificates.

The management team is ever grateful to Fr. George (Director), Fr. Anto (Asst. Director), Dr. V. V. Sohoni (Principal), Prof. R. B. Gowardhan (Vice-Principal) and Prof. Manoj Bramhe (HOD-IT) for being a source of motivation and direction .

The event as a whole was managed and coordinated under the guidance of Prof.  Shabana Pathan and Prof.Priti Golar , faculty coordinators of the workshop.

Winners at Science Conclave “URJA 2017-18”

A Project competition was organized by JSW Foundation in collaboration with Vigyan Bharti, Raman Science Center and Prof. Rajendra Singh Science Exploratory.

A group comprising of six students from the Mechanical Engineering  Dept., namely Prajwal Nagare, Parikshit Kathwate, Rahul Kumbhare, Ayur Gillurkar, Prafull Kuhite, Sheryash Shelokar participated.  Their topic ‘Solution for real-time problem related to scrap strip guiding and collection system faced by JSW-Steel Plant’ was proposed and demonstrated using a working model.

This gorup outshined the others, winning the 1st prize. The students thank their guide Prof. Ghanshyam. R. Boob for his guidance and encouragement.
