Technex’2k18 – A Technical Competition

 

Technex 2018, a 2-day Annual National Level Technical Fest ranked 9th in Central India by Campus Diary, was held on the 24th & 25th of January 2018.

The Chief Guest of the inaugural program was Col. Mohemmed Ansari, Head Information Technology, Data Analytics & Program Development, Boeing. Also present were Mr.Mukesh Dubey Vice-Precident Navbharat Times, Fr. George (Director), Fr. Anto (Asst. Director), Fr. Siju (Financial Administrator), Fr. Dantees (Head, HR), Dr. V. V. Sohoni (Principal) and Prof. R. B. Gowardhan (Vice-Principal). In his address Col. Ansari emphasized the need to face challenges in life and learn the importance of team work, further applauding the effort of the Institute.

Thereafter, Col. Ansari inaugurated the events, spent some time trying his hand at operating various bots at events like Robosoccer, Overdrive, Cranebot, Aquacombat and Sky Wars. At the event Project Mania, Col. Ansari interacted with various groups who had their projects on display and with student coordinators

He later gave valuable suggestions to students going to Harrisburg University for their Summer Internship on Artificial Intelligence, motivating them to make the best use of this opportunity.

On Day 2, finalists of various events played with grit and zest, each desiring to emerge as the winner.  Certificates were distributed to winners during the Valedictory function, attended by the Management, HODs, Faculty Members, participants and students.

This year Technex had 5 workshop-based events and 4 non-workshop-based events. About 400 groups participated. The number of groups that participated in each of these 9 events are:

  1. Aquacombat: 20 groups
  2. Cranebot: 44 groups
  3. Robosoccer: 50 groups
  4. Skywar: 17 groups
  5. Overdrive: 74 groups
  6. Projectmania: 32 groups
  7. Criddle: 50 groups
  8. Cryptjam: 50 groups
  9. Dcrypt: 10 groups

Technex had conducted 5 different workshops which saw 78 groups participating, having a tie up with agencies like Bromonz, Robotics Lab, Geeks Lab and Technovision.

More than 1500 students participating in various events, some of the colleges that competed are:

In all 50 colleges from the different states of India such as Gujarat, Rajasthan, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra participated in Technex’18.

An addition to this year’s events was ‘Technex Techchallenge’, in which students from 5 different schools of Nagpur namely- St. John’s, St. Francis De Sales, St. Claret, Montfort and St. Vincent Pallotti competed in treasure hunt, crossword puzzle and extempore round.

INSIGHT 2k18

‘INSIGHT’ is a much talked about and eagerly awaited Inter-Collegiate and Intra-Collegiate Cultural Festival, organized each year by St. Vincent Pallotti College of Engg. & Tech., Nagpur, where students participate and compete in an array of cultural and sport events.

During long celebration, the six Departments compete in various sports namely – Cricket, Football, Basketball, etc giving a strong sportsmanship spirit to INSIGHT 2K18. Participation from the students end was simply overwhelming.

19th & 20th January, 2018 were two great days where the Tech Pallottines witnessed a great show. The Inaugural ceremony on day one was full of life. Chief Guest of the function , Rev. Fr. Varghese Pullan, Chairman, Nagpur Pallottines Society greatly motivated the youth with inspiring words.

Large number of students zealously participated in various intra-collegiate events like Impulse (Personality development), Face Painting, Band Slam, Beat Buster (Solo Dance), Shutterbugs, Rhythm Divine (Instrumental), Mehfil (Poetry ) , Traditional Dress Competition and Fashion Show. The eye catching events of the two day celebration- Beat Buster (Group Dance) and Swar Ragini (Solo Singing), an inter-collegiate event had students participating from Colleges in and around Nagpur. Faculty members were quite upfront and participated with great zest in the Cricket , Musical Chairs , Singing and Traditional dress competition.

The Champions of Insight 2K18 (Sports) was Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering Department and the second position was shared by the Mechanical  Engineering Department and Information Technology Department.  The event was managed and coordinated under the guidance of Dr. Nitin K. Dhote (Faculty Co-ordinator, Insight 2k18) , Mr. Bhushan Dakhore (Student Co-ordinator) and Prof. Ashlesha Nagpure (Sports Coordinator)

Tech Pallottines – National Champions of IKR 2k18

St. Vincent Pallotti College of Engineering & Technology’s collegiate motorsport team ‘Ashwa Riders – Go Karting’, competed with their creation Mirage 2.0 in the INDIAN KART RACING (IKR) CHAMPIONSHIP 2018, organised by ISIE INDIA in accordance with the Federation of Motor sports club of India (FMSCI) at The Buddh International Circuit, Noida. This team was declared National Champions, securing first position and also bagged the Best Acceleration and Best Endurance award.

The team hailing from Nagpur, Maharashtra participated in the 4 day event  witnessed participation of 50 teams from different colleges, all over India. The team cleared the strict Technical and Safety Inspection conducted by  FMSCI technical inspectors.

The drivers of the team Samprit Shamkuwar & Anmol Durugkar showcased their fabulous driving skills. The endurance race comprised of 30 laps which extensively checked the drivers abilities and build quality of the vehicle. The race was flagged off by the Chief Guest Mira Erda, Formula Racer representing India along with officials of the FMSCI.

The team bagged the ‘Best Acceleration’ andBest Endurance’ award,  two cheques worth rupees 10,000 each. As winners they lifted the ‘Champions Trophy’ and a cheque of rupees One lakh,  presented by Mr Vinod Gupta, Chairman Imperial Society of Innovative Engineers (ISIE).

The enthusiastic winners received a grand welcome on their arrival by the Tech Pallottine family at the Nagpur railway station.

Article writing Competition

The article writing competition was organized by the language club of Holistic Development Cell on 11th January 2018. The aim was to apprise the students with the elements of writing skills. Thus, with help of this activity the students were given an opportunity to display their proficiency as a keen observer and writer. The competition was conducted in library,where topics were given on spot and 20 min time to write an article of not more than 200 words, on innovative practice. In total, 15 articles were received from students, which covered topics “What if Artificial intelligence developed consciousness” and “Death and Rebirth”. The articles were reviewed by the faculty members associated with the club.

Prof. Neha Singh and Prof. Shruti Ramachandran coordinated the activity with student coordinators Aishwarya Wanjari, Sijit Joseph and Shreyash Manegaonkar.

Mentoring Session

Teaching is considered more than a profession and teachers are regarded as the strongest pillars of  society. The Department of Information Technology had organized a ‘Mentoring Session’ for all Faculty Members of the College on 11th January 2018.

Mr. Abirama Krishna and Mr. K.V. Vishwanathan from Nivritti Associates were the facilitators. Mr. Abhirama Krishna, a Mechanical Engineer by profession, shared various experiences with a message “Aim always high”. Mr. K.V. Vishwanathan was of the view that since knowledge is becoming redundant being a learner is more important. He also focused on the difference between collaboration  & co-operation and why collaboration is needed for better bonding.

The guests were accorded a floral welcome by Prof. M. Bramhe, HOD, IT Dept. The momento was given by Prof. S. Moharir and Prof. Borikar to both the facilitators.

The master of ceremony was Ms. P. Sarkar and was successfully co-ordinated by Ms. Pooja Walke.

Industrial Visit to HVAC Installation Site

The ISHRAE Nagpur Chapter organized an industrial visit for their student members to the site of Purti Commercial Complex, Koradi, Nagpur, on 6th January 2018. Students from the 6th and 8th semester were accompanied by Prof. M. P. Kshirsagar.

The commercial complex has a total cooling load of 374 TR, is under construction and HVAC installation is underway. Mr. Sanjay Tatwawadi, Ex-President, ISHRAE Nagpur Chapter and Mr. Sunil Kolhe, Immediate Ex-President, ISHRAE Nagpur Chapter lead the students through the different sections of HVAC installation at the site.

Students grasped the practical aspects of Air Handling Units, Outdoor Chilling Units, Duct & Air Distribution, Acoustic & Thermal Insulation etc. Environmental issues related to the HVAC field such as selection of refrigerants from ozone depletion and global warming point of view, use of Hermetically sealed scroll compressors were also discussed.  By the end of this visit, students were able to better correlate their theoretical knowledge with  industrial HVAC practices.

Intercollegiate Sport Event

St. Vincent Pallotti College of Engineering & Technology had organised its maiden Inter-Collegiate Sports event ‘COLLYMPIC’, on 8th & 9th January 2018.

The event includes two dynamic sports VOLLEYBALL  & FUTSAL . In all 20 teams from  Vidarbha participated for the event. Dr. V. V. Sohoni (Principal) & Prof R. B. Gowardhan (Vice Principal) inaugurated the event.Fr. George Madeikkal (Director) congratulated the participants and winners for their sportsmanship.

Futsal Winner Anjuman College of Engineering, Nagpur. Won against Ramdeobaba College of Engineering, Nagpur.

Unveiling of ‘MIRAGE 2.0’ – The GOKART

On Saturday, 6th January 2018, the air of our College was filled with excitement and awe. ‘THE ASHWA RIDERS GOKART’ creation ‘MIRAGE 2.0 THE GOKART’ was inaugurated by the Chief Guest- Mr. K Sushil Kumar (Additional General Manager Maharastra Metro Rail Corporation), at the college auditorium. The Team Leader of Ashwa Riders Go-Karting introduced his team, explaining its working, followed by a brief address by Mr. K Sushil Kumar on ‘The way to live life’, encouraging  students to never give up in life.

Thereafter ‘THE ASHWA RIDERS GOKART’ creation ‘MIRAGE 2.0 THE GOKART’ was unveiled in the college premises by Mr. K Sushil Kumar, ‘Mr. Akhilesh Halve’ (Deputy General Manager(CC), Maharastra Metro Rail Corporation) and Mr. Ankit Bhorkar (NB Equipments and Engineering Pvt. Ltd). Fr. George Madeikkal (Director, SVPCET), Faculty Members, Parents of the GOKART team and students too were present.

The programme was channelized and coordinated by Faculty Advisor Prof. Homeshwar Nagpure & Prof. Abhranil Banerjee.
