Workshop on ‘Electrical Machine Winding & General Electrical Maintenance’

A two day Workshop on “Electrical Machine Winding and General Electrical Maintenance” was conducted by the Electrical Engineering Department, on 18th & 19th August, 2017. The workshop was organized to enhance the basic understanding of Non-Teaching Staff on general electrical maintenance.

Mr. Mohd. Irfan, Maharashtra Electricals, Nagpur, led the first day’s session on ‘Electrical Machine Winding’, explaining how to re-wind an Electrical Induction Motor.

The second day’s session was divided into three parts, the first being led by Prof. Prafull M. Tarwatkar, explaining in depth about household wiring scheme, testing of electrical equipments, tube light wiring and testing of earthing in residential installations. The next was taken by Prof. Sumant A. Sarmokadam, giving information about calculation of electrical loads and formulation of an electrical bill. Dr. Nitin K. Dhote took the final session on  Transformer Winding.

At the end, certificates were distributed to each participant.

Dr. (Mrs.) J. P. Rothe, Head of Department was the convener of this workshop, while Prof. Prafull M. Tarwatkar & Prof. Sumant A. Sarmokadam were the Faculty Co-ordinators.

Farewell Program of Mr. P. N. Gupta and Mrs. Vanamala Sone

Farewell program was organised for Mr. Purushottam N Gupta and Mrs. Vanamala Sone. This program was organized to acknowledge with gratitude their selfless contribution in the service of the college in different ways. Faculty members, non teaching staffs, CR’s and SRC’s were present in the gathering.

Mr. Purushottam N Gupta had been working as registrar in the college since 2004. He has been also working with different fields like affiliations, general office work, university enrollments and scholarships.

Mrs. Vanamala Sone, a resident of Gavsi Manapur was working with the institute from its inception as a supporting staff.

Program began with the introduction of guests by the Master of Ceremony Prof. Abhranil Banerjee of Department of Mechanical Engineering. Fr. Anto Mullanal, Asst. Director, welcomed the guests. Fr. George Madeikkal, Director(SVPCET), addressed the gathering recalling the dedicated services done for the institute by Mr. Gupta and Mrs. Sone. Admin head, Prof. Borikar also spoke about the guests and how they continue to inspire everyone around to work with dedication. Mr. Gupta and Mrs. Sone were felicitated with Institute Memento, Shawl. Mr. Gupta also shared his thoughts on the good days of his service with the college. Mr. Gupta was nostalgic at the end.

Independence Day Cup

An ‘Independence Day Cup’ was organized by the College on 15th August 2017, stirring a high level of excitement among football lovers. The match was inaugurated by Fr. George (Director), Fr. Anto (Asst. Director) and Prof. Gowardhan (Vice-Principal). It was played between a team comprising of 4th year students and a team of 2nd & 3rd year students combined, with the latter team winning the match and a cash prize of 5000, whereas the runnerup team was awarded Rs. 2000.

The winning goal was scored by the enthusiastic Libin Babu, a second year student from the M.E. Dept., and was given a special prize of 500 by Fr. Anto Mullanal.

Technical Training Program at Pallotti

ISTE student chapter and Skill Development Cell of St. Vincent Pallotti college of Engineering & Technology in collaboration with ExpertsHub, Chennai and Prolific Technologies Pvt Ltd, Nagpur organized 7-days Hands-on Training program on Internet of Things and Industry Automation (PLC and SCADA) respectively for student of all branches. The training program was conducted from 17th August 2017 to 23rd August 2017. The total number of students were 115. The objective of the training program is to give an insight on how industries are revolutionizing the world by means of connected system. Students are given actual exposure from emerging field of IOT and Industry Automation. Student attending the program gets to work on project as a team which are real world application that are developed under experts guidance. The experts were from the industries.

Seminar on ‘Introduction to ERP and Analytic’

Alumnus, Mr. Sanam Khatri, 2015 batch from the Computer Engineering Department, was invited to facilitate the seminar ‘Introduction to ERP and Analytic for the 3rd & 4th year students on 19th August, 2017. He has completed his MBA from Balaji Institute and is an intern at Range Rover and Jaguar.

Mr. Sanam briefed the students on important aspects such as- the selection process of a company that consists of an Aptitude Test followed by Group Discussion, Case Study, Personal & Technical Interview,  being skilled and having a learning attitude, important softwares to learn and work upon viz. Access- Database, IoT, ERP (SAP and VISTA) and Analytics.

Celebrating the 71st Independence Day with Colours of Revolution

The 71st Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotism, clearly visible in the eyes of students and faculty members. The day’s program began at 9 a.m with flag hoisting by the Chief Guest, Wing Commander G.L. Nagendra, in the presence of Management, teachers & students. The Chief Guest took the students down memory lane sharing his varied experiences and his take on the Indian Air Force. He also encouraged students to join the armed forces, becoming an asset for the country.

Celebrating diverse cultures of India and the unity within, one could witness an extravanganza of brilliant performances put up by the students, paying a tribute to the tricolor. A captivating musical show was brought forth by the College band, lending their voice to beautiful classical notes. Cadet. Kevin Paul with great fervor  spoke about the sacrifice willingly taken up by the soldiers of our country on our behalf, while Sagar Dewale, through a monoact, passionately expressed his love and deep desire to serve the country.

Another highlight of this day was felicitation of women house keeping staff of the College by the Social Active Cell (SAC) along with the NSS team, with a shawl and stationery items for their children.

Students also displayed great energy and patriotism through a flash mob, a suprise act for the audience. Thereafter, a tree plantation event was organized by the NSS for the dignitaries present.

Fun games were also conducted by students of the Electrical Department, promoting their upcoming technical event. An Independence Day football match between the senior and junior students was held at the football ground.

5th Sem students, Neha Singh and Rudolf Ragis, from the ME Department, hosted the program.

Thus, the day’s celebration came to an end with each one rekindling within them a spirit of love and respect for the country.

Guest Lecture for First Sem Students

A Guest lecture, ‘Momentum-changing one’s way of life’, was organized by the Department of Basic Sciences & Humanities, under the aegis of ISTE students’ chapter, on 12th August 2017, for the first semester students.

The speaker for the session was Dr. Surendra Gole, a well known personality in the field of academics and a corporate trainer. The aim of the lecture was to guide the first year students in their journey of engineering.

The session commenced with a brief introduction of the guest followed by a floral welcome by the first year in-charge, Prof. Sucheta Moharir. Dr. Gole explained the importance of consistency in academics. He stated the significance of overall excellence in today’s competitive world. He insisted that, students should attend classes regularly with full concentration. Dr. Gole also advocated the importance of being self motivated, determined, enthusiastic throughout the life. The speaker enlightened everyone with his wise words.

Vishakha Soman & Vaibhav Shitole, third year students, anchored the programme & proposed a vote of thanks. The program concluded with the National anthem.

For a better and greener tomorrow, we need to act now and plant more trees. Taking a step towards this, the Department of Electrical Engineering, under the banner of NSS, organized a Tree plantation program on the eve of 71st Independence Day. Wing Commander G L Nagendra, the Chief Guest of the function, planted the first sapling. Other departmental faculty coordinators along with NSS volunteers planted the rest of the trees in the college campus. Prof. Prafull Tarwatkar, NSS Program Officer, was the event coordinator.

Workshop on Ethical Hacking

In association with the Computer Society of India, Department of Computer Engineering (SVPCET) organized a three day workshop on Ethical Hacking, on 4th, 9th and 10th August, 2017. The workshop was conducted by Madhav Somani, an alumnus of Computer Engineering department, for the 2nd & 3rd year students of C.E department.  He has administered many seminars and  workshops in renowned institutions like IITs (Roorkie, Powai,…etc) and has also worked in Cyber Security Cell. He started the workshop with explaining  Ehtical Hacking  and moved on to the History of Hacking, Triangle of Death and the scope and career in Ethical Hacking. He also elucidated about Windows Hacking, Android Hacking, SQL Injection and Social Engineering.

The objective of the workshop was to help the students identify how hackers attack people and help protect themselves as well as others from it.

The workshop was really fruitful. Participants gave a positive feedback and requested to host similar workshops in future.

Alumnus Interaction

Madhav Somani an alumnus, was invited on the 2nd of Aug, 2017, by the CE Department to facilitate a session on ‘Ethical Hacking’, specially organized for the 2nd and 3rd year CE students.

Madhav is exceptionally talented, his interest in Ethical Hacking grew from the age of 12 onwards. Today, he is invited as a Guest Speaker and has conducted a number of Seminars in Nagpur and cities like Jaipur, Pune and Mumbai. Madhav has also lead workshops in renowned educational institutions like IITs (Roorkee, Powai,..etc.).

Here, in this session for the students, he explained the basics of hacking, cracking and numerous details involved in it with the most practical examples. Sharing his personal experience he encouraged students to take the initiative of building a career in hacking. The lecture was much appreciated by those present.
